"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

"The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time." (Genesis 6:4-5)

Keep in mind that we are still in the time period that was between the banishment of Cain and the Great Flood of Judgment.

It was during this time period, that the sons of God had intermingled and married the daughters of men, and began to raise families. Now these daughters of men came from those who were considered giants on the earth.

Understand that the term "giant" is basically used in reference to men who had obtained great power and influence, which basically came from a position of high stature.

These so-called giants would use their positions of strength and influence to oppress and tyrannize others all across the lands. It were these types of behavior, and many other sins that mankind was committing that helped to bring on the Great Flood of Judgment that would eventually come from the Lord.

Mankind had became so corrupt, that the thoughts and imaginations of man had become a continuous evil. This means that their thoughts were focus on doing evil deeds all the time. The principles that they were following had become extremely corrupt and their souls were tainted with vile wickedness.

After God had seen what man was becoming He became grieved and the Bible states, that He regretted making man in the first place.

I find that statement to be very interesting, and being that there has been a lot of speculation on what the Bible really meant when the scripture states this. I find that I'm not the only one:

"And it repented the Lord that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at His heart." (Genesis 6:6)

Now I'm not going to get into all the different viewpoints when it comes to what the experts say. And the reason why, is because this scripture is basically a simple reflection on how anybody who has a love for somebody, would feel if they saw them destroying themselves willing.

The point of this whole account, is to show how wicked man had become and the Lord with the love that He has for us, decided to do something about it.

"And the Lord said, 'I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth - men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air - for I am grieved that I have made them.'" (Genesis 6:7)

The Lord announced that He will wipe away the filth of mankind and undo all that man had done. The animals would be punished as well, being that they were made for the pleasing and servicing of man. Now the stage is set for the Great Flood of Judgment to come in and execute a mighty judgment against the sins of humanity.
