The Strife between Abram and Lot

Lot was pleased for he saw that this land was well watered like the garden of the Lord (Garden of Eden) had once been.

(Genesis 13: 1-18)

God's Provision

So after Abram had went down to Egypt in hope of finding some type of provision from Egypt, being that Canaan the land that God had promise him was in a famine.

Now we find that Abram was on his way back to the place from whence he should have never left.

He was very fortunate to still have his wife Sarai, being that he almost lost her to the Egyptians.

But God will never break His promise, and He made sure that Abram was provided for while he was down in Egypt.

In fact - God blessed Abram so much, that he left from out of Egypt not just with his marriage still in tact, but the Lord had made Abram a very wealthy man as well.

His nephew Lot would also benefit from the covenant that God had made with Abram, for he also had became a very wealthy man along with his uncle.

Abram Builds an Altar to the Lord?

Now after going from place to place we are told that Abram would find himself back near the town of Bethel where he had previously made an altar unto the Lord earlier in his journey.

Bethel in which the name means, "house of God," would be the place where Abram would call on the name of the Lord.

We are not told what Abram and God had discussed, but Abram had just been through a lot, and thanks to God he was able to make it through his ordeal very nicely. So we can only assume that he was thanking the almighty God for all that he had done.

Quarreling?

In the meantime we find that Abram and Lot's herdsmen weren't getting along, and strife had started building between the two camps. Canaan was a land that could definitely provide for both camps.

But being that they had not yet taken possession of the land away from the Canaanites and the growth of each camp constantly increasing, the space they had for settlement at this time was still very limited.

"Let's not have any quarreling between you and me, or between your herdsmen and mine, for we are brothers. Is not the whole land before you? Let's part company, if you go to the left, I'll go to the right; if you go to the right, I'll go to the left," Abram told Lot while allowing him to pick his choice of land.

I Choose Jordan?

So Lot started looking around at the entire plain of Jordan, in which he saw the river Jordan which had divided itself into a bunch of little streams.

Lot was pleased for he saw that this land was well watered like the garden of the Lord (Garden of Eden) had once been.

Now Lot decided to choose the plain of Jordan and headed east towards it, as he parted ways with Abram and his camp.

After Lot had set up camp in the plain of Jordan which was located near the city of Sodom. We are now told that the men of the city of Sodom were wicked and very sinful before the Lord.

God Speaks to Abram?

In the meantime we find that the Lord had spoken to Abram, "Lift up your eyes from where you are and look north and south, east and west.

All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted.

Go walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you," God would instruct Abram.

So Abram did as he was told and dwelt in the plain of Mamre which was located in the city of Hebron, in which we are told that he built an altar unto the one true God.
