Abram the Brave WarriorAfter Abram had heard this horrible news, he then proceeded to round up three hundred and eighteen of his own men so they could go and try to rescue Lot from Chedorlaomer (Genesis 14: 13-16)
Short Recap
We have just come from the first war that had been recorded in the Bible. This war took place behind Chedorlaomer the king of Elam and his rebel allies. Chedorlaomer and his allies would rebel against the king of Sodom and found victory against him while they clashed at the tar and slim pits within -- The Vale of Siddim. Afterwards, Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies would lay waste to the land that they had just conquered and enrich themselves with its spoils. What we would find out next is that Abram's nephew Lot had been rounded up in a group along with the other captives.

Meanwhile, someone was able to escape from the mayhem. This person name was not mentioned, but he was able to make it to where Abram was dwelling. Once he was able to locate Abram, he spoke about Lot's capture by Chedorlaomer. After Abram had heard this horrible news, he then proceeded to round up three hundred and eighteen of his own men so they could go and try to rescue Lot from Chedorlaomer. Now these men were not outsiders for they came straight from Abram's household. They were trained and taught by Abram as well. For he taught them about their duty to the one true God, how to be husbandmen (tillers of the land) and shepherds and on top of those things, Abram taught them about the art of war.
Christian Stories - Biblical Stories Abram Was Prepared?
Notice what Abram did once he received the horrible news about his nephew? He didn't think about what to do, he didn't go and seek counsel from others - but he immediately readied his men. What this meant, was that Abram was already prepared mentally, physically, and spiritually. Now all of these things had happened after him and Lot had their fallen out and his nephew departed away from him because of it. Abram could have used this situation to teach Lot a lesson and adopted a "That's what you get," type of attitude. But he didn't. Instead he showed how humble and loving he was, by risking his life for Lot's without any hesitation; showing us a deeper insight on why God choose Abram in the first place.

Abram would team up with his confederates Mamre and his brothers Aner and Eshcol. They would immediately set out and track Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies all through the night. Abram and company, would finally catch up with them at a place called Dan which was located north of Damascus. Look at the courage of Abram? With just a small number of men, he sets out to do battle with Chedorlaomer the Conqueror and his rebel allies. Let's take a moment to think about the courage Abram had and who he was going against? Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies had just defeated the Rephaites (who were fierce warriors in the Canaan lands) that were located in Ashteroth Karnaim and they defeated the Zuzites in Ham. They also defeated the Emites (who were tall and big giant like warriors in the Canaan lands) that were located in Shaveh Kiriathaim, while defeating the Horites in the hill country of Seir. Then they returned to Kadesh and defeated the entire country side of the Amalekites along with the Amorites that dewelt in Hazezon-tamar. But wait there's more? Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies would then go against the kings of Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim and Zoar and defeat all five of them as well.

Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies had just destroyed some well respected and established kingdoms, proving that they were champions and conquerors when it came to the art of war. Abram was able to bring back everything that Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies had looted and captured from the other kingdoms. He brought back all the goods and his nephew Lot and all that they took from him as well. Abram also brought back the other women and men that were also captured by Chedorlaomer and his rebel allies also.
