CainThe First Recorded Murderer(Genesis 4: 8-18)
"Then the Lord said to Cain, "Where is your brother Abel ?" "I don't know," he replied. "Am I my brother keeper ?" (Genesis 4:9)
We are now at the point where we find that instead of Cain obeying God's command, he decides to get angry with the Lord. "But on Cain and his offering He did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. Then the Lord said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at the door, it desires to have you, but you must master it." (Genesis 4:5-7) Within this scripture you will also find that God tried to reason with Cain. But Cain would have none of it. So out of envy and jealousy he lures Abel out to the fields, and then he attacked and killed him.
Christian Stories - Bible Study Online Accountability
Now God, who knows all, gave Cain a chance to be accountable for his actions. He had asked Cain "Where is your brother Abel?" Instead of Cain telling the truth, he lies and gets smart with God, "I don't know, am I my brother's keeper?" God then reveals to Cain that he knows where Abel is, because his blood had already cried out to Him from out of the ground. Cain took great pride in his talents of being able to till the ground, but because of his sin God took away his opportunity to use his talent and skills.

He tells Cain that he will no longer be able to till the ground and the ground will no longer yield crops for him. He also stated that he will be a restless wanderer on the earth. After God had told Cain these things, Cain responded by saying, "My punishment is more than I can bear. Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." Note: Even at this point, Cain knew that being away from God, would not be a good place to be. Also if you were to remember that his parents Adam and Eve were also cast out from a better place, but they stayed humble and still obeyed and had continued to fellowship with the Lord. Although Adam and Eve blessings were not as great as they once were, they were still being blessed by God in smaller ways. This is shown, because they were still able to continue to rule and subdue and have children who would later make great contributions to humanity. So I believe that this would have been the case for Cain as well. But God still shows Cain mercy, and places a mark upon his head. For whosoever may lay a hand on him will suffer vengeance from the Lord seven times over. So Cain left the land and headed eastward and settled in a place called Nod. This is where he married and started his own family. He also had built the first recorded city in which he called "Enoch." This city was named after his first born son.
