Means: (mother of joy) - She was the wife of a wealthy man name Nabal the Calebite. She was a very intelligent and beautiful woman and her husband was surly and mean. He had insulted David the General (He was not yet King of Israel) when David had sent word that he wanted some type of favor from Nabal, being that he was kind to Nabal's shepherds while they were out in the field.

Now after being insulted by this man, David was planning on killing Nabal and every man that was in his camp. But Abigail went out to meet David with a load of food supplies that she was giving to him for his kindness to her husband shepherds.

David was impress and pleased with Abigail, so therefore he decided not to shed any blood within Nabal's camp. About ten days later the Lord struck Nabal dead; and when David heard this he sent for Abigail asking her to be his wife, and she agreed.

Means: (he grasped) - He was the son of king Jotham who later became his successor to the throne of Judah. He was twenty years old when he became king in which he reigned for sixteen years.

Means: (God sustains) - Was the name of two kings? One who ruled the kingdom of Judah in which he was succeeded by Athaliah. The second king ruled the kingdom of Israel in which he was succeeded by Jehoram.

Means: (judge) - Was one of the tribal founders to the twelve tribes of Israel. He was the son of Jacob and Bilhah (Rachel's handmaiden). He would be Bilhah's first and Jacob's fifth.

Note: There were only two people out of who held the position of a judge that were also called prophets. She was one and Samuel was the other.

Means: (fearful) - He was an Edomite that was king Saul's chief herdsman. He was present when David had met with Ahimelech the high priest of Nob. He would later through the orders of king Saul, strike down eighty-five temple priest of Nob that represent the one true God.

Means: (calf-like) - He was the Moabite king who overthrew Israel in which he ruled for eighteen years. He would later be assassinated by Ehud, a left-handed man who was the son of Gera the Benjamite.

Means: (God of praise) - He was the son of Gera the Benjamite. He was also left-handed, I only mention this because the Bible had but such a great emphasis on it. Ehud held the office as a judge who God used to kill a Eglon the king of Moab.

Means: (the embracer) - He was a prophet who questioned God's approach, when dealing with the wicked nation of Judah. When God responded by letting him know that he will allow the Babylonians to put the people of Judah in captivity.

Habakkuk had a problem with this, because he could not understand how a holy God could use such a ruthless nation to punish people who were more righteous than they. He also wrote the book of Habakkuk, it's there you will find his recorded account.

Means: (fest or festival ) - He was a prophet who wrote the book "Haggi." God also used him to deliver the first message to the exiles after they returned back to Palestine after being in captivity within Babylon. This happen after Babylon fell to the invading armies that were lead by Cyrus the Great.

After executing the king Belshazzar; he placed his General, Darius the Mede as the new king of Babylon. Within his first year as king, Darius the Mede signed a decree which freed the Jews and allowed them to return back home and build their temple in Jerusalem.

Means: (hot) - He was Noah's second born son and father to Canaan. Because of their immoral actions towards Noah, Ham and his son Canaan would be cursed.

Means: (gracious) - Was the brother of Nehemiah who survived the captivity stage in Judah. He also became the keeper of the gates that were part of the rebuilt Jerusalem.

Means: (the Lord is gracious) - He was a false prophet during the reign of king Zedekiah. He was the son of Azzur the Gibeonite who was later rebuked for his false prophecies by the prophet Jeremiah.

Means: (Grace) - She was one of two wives who was married to a man name, Elkanah. He had another wife who name was Peninnah. Peninnah was able to have son's and daughters and Hannah was not able to have kids.

She would be teased by Peninnah because of this, which made her weep quite often year after year. One day she had went to the temple like she always had done, and prayed that the Lord will remember His servant and bless her with a son.

She promise that she will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and promise never to cut his hair. One night when Elkanah laid with Hannah whom he loved very much, God remember Hannah and blessed her with a child. She named this child Samuel, who became a mighty prophet for the Lord.

Means: (gracious) - He was the son of Nahash who would later become king of the Ammonites after his father had passed away. Before he had died, king Nahash had shown great kindness to David and his men.

So out of respect, David would express his sympathy by sending some officials to pay respects. But Hanun would humiliate David's officials by cutting off half their beards and cutting their lower garments in half which revealed their buttocks.

Means: (God's portion) - He was a high priest who served during the reign of king Josiah. He was also the priest who discovered the Law of Moses, which was located in a temple that they were repairing.

Means: (salvation) - He was a prophet that God used in Israel, around 770-725 B.C. He is also the author of the book "Hosea."

Means: (weasel) - She was a prophetess who was the wife of Shallum. She lived in Jerusalem the Second District. She served during the reign of king Josiah.

Means: (noble) - He was a helper to Moses, who with Aaron helped to hold up Moses hands as Joshua lead Israel against the Amalekites. Moses had to keep his hands raised if Joshua had any chance of defeating the Amalekites. Because of Aaron and Hur; helping Moses to keep his hands raised, Joshua was able to defeat the Amalekites.
