EliezerReceives Rebekah's Family Blessing The chief servant would then proceed to bring out gold and sliver along with articles of fine clothing and presented them to Rebekah (Bible Study Online Article Covers : Genesis 24:28-54)
Short Recap?
In the last article we learnt that Eliezer had paid his respects towards Rebekah by rewarding her with expensive gifts. This was done in exchange for the civility and kindness that she had shown towards him and his camels sometime earlier. Next, Eliezer would bow down and he began thanking the Lord in a faithful display of worship, by saying: "Praise be to the Lord, the God of my master Abraham, who has not abandon his kindness and faithfulness to my master. As for me, the Lord has led me on a journey to the house of my master's relatives." Afterwards, Rebekah had ran to tell her family about the expensive gifts and the things that Eliezer had shared with her. After Laban who was her brother, had saw the gifts and heard about the things that Eliezer had told his sister - he decided to go out and meet with the chief servant. Once he had came before Eliezer who was standing near the water-well where the camels were, he said: "Come, you are blessed by the Lord. Why are you standing out here? I have prepared the house and a place for the camels." So Eliezer went back to the house with Laban and unloaded the camels and it would be at this time the camels were fed straw and fodder. Rebekah's family also brought some water for Eliezer and the men who traveled with him to wash their feet, as well as some food for them to eat. But Eliezer during this time insisted on telling Rebekah's family the reason why he was there, before he began eating the food that they had brought before him and his men. Laban would agree to hear why Eliezer had come so far and why it involved his sister Rebekah.

Eliezer would begin by saying: "I am Abraham's servant. The Lord has blessed my master abundantly, and he has become wealthy, He has given him sheep and cattle, sliver and gold, menservants and maidservants, and camels and donkeys. My master's wife Sarah has borne him a son in her old age, and he has given him everything he owns. And my master made me swear an oath, and said, 'You must not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live, but go to my family and to my own clan, and get a wife for my son.' "Then I asked my master, 'What if the woman will not come back with me?' He replied, 'The Lord, before whom I have walked, will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father's family. Then when you go to my clan, you will be released from my oath.'" -- Genesis 24:34-41
Bible Study Online Then I Prayed to God?
Eliezer continued...
"When I came to the spring today, I said: 'O Lord, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come. See, I am standing beside this spring; if a maiden comes out to draw water and I say to her, "Please let me drink a little water from your jar," and if she says to me, "Drink, and I'll draw water for your camels too," let her be the one the Lord has chosen for my master's son.' "Before I finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out, with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her: 'Please give me a drink?' She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said: 'Drink, and I'll water your camels too.' So I drank, and she watered the camels also. I asked her: 'Whose daughter are you?' She said: 'The daughter of Bethuel son of Nahor, whom Milcah bore to him.' "Then I put the ring in her nose and the bracelets on her arms, and I bowed down and worshiped the Lord. I praised the Lord, the God of my master's brother for his son. Now if you will show kindness and faithfulness to my master -- tell me; and if not, tell me, so I may know which way to turn." -- Genesis 24:42-49
Bible Study Online Rebekah's Family Agrees to Letting Her Go?
After hearing all that Eliezer had to say, Laban and Bethuel would respond by saying: "This is from the Lord; we can say nothing to you one way or the other. Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master's son, as the Lord has directed." Needless-to-say, Eliezer was pleased with their response and he bowed down to thank the Lord once again. The chief servant would then proceed to bring out gold and sliver along with fine articles of clothing and presented them to Rebekah. Eliezer would also give expensive gifts to her family as well. However, in the meantime, Eliezer and his men had decided to replenish their bodies by eating, drinking and soon after resting for the night.
