Abraham

His Last Years

He reached a good old age, and became an elder man who was full of years before he breathed his last breath

(Bible Study Online Article Covers : Genesis 25:1-11)

Abraham's Third Wife?

In the last article we learned that Isaac and Rebekah had finally met, and soon after were married.

This was able to happen because of Eliezer's obedience and dedication to Abraham. Eliezer would of course benefit from the favor of the Lord as well, when it came to his "wife finding mission"

Needless-to-say, Abraham was happy to finally be able to see his son Isaac get married.

This would be a great moment within Abraham's life, being that Isaac would marry a young lady who went by the name of Rebekah, who came from Abraham's homeland of Mesopotamia. But now we move forward, and it would be at this time the Sacred Record reveals that Abraham would find himself another wife who went by the name Keturah. It's presumed that maybe she was one of the maidservants that had already lived within Abraham's household.

Six more Sons?

Be that as it may, we also discover that Abraham would have six more children with his new wife Keturah. And the names of these children are, Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian (father of the Midianites), Ishbak and Shuah. These sons of Abraham would become the forefathers of various different civilizations that dwelt in the areas of Arabia and Syria.

Now it's at this point that we're reminded that as Abraham enters into his last years, he begins to get things into official order, in regards to his estate and family. Wefind that he would officially make Isaac the heir to his entire household. But when it came to his sons that he had with is other wives (Hagar and Keturah)? He gave them valuable gifts and sent them to the eastward lands of Arabia and Asia the Greater. Needless-to-say, this would be done for good reasons, being that it would separate them from Isaac by placing their households far away.

Know that this separation would be necessary, for it had to be done, being that God had placed a "divine promise" on Isaac. The reasons why I'm making such a statement, is because we must understand that out of all the children that were born unto Abraham, Isaac was the only one that was conceived within God's perfect will: "Yes, but your wife will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him." -- (Genesis 17: 19)

Abraham's Other Children Will Also Become Great Nations?

Now keep in mind that this doesn't mean that his other children weren't blessed themselves. For they were and in a great way: "And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him: I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation." -- (Genesis 17: 20)

But we must also keep in mind that although Isaac's brothers would become great nations as well, it would be within Isaac's genealogy that the "Abrahamic Covenant" would be sustained and most importantly would be the linage that the true Messiah (Jesus [Yeshua] Christ) would eventually come from.

Abraham's Last Days?

Be that as it may, now we find ourselves in the last days of Abraham, being that the Sacred Record would reveal that Abraham was now 175 years old. Know that he'd reached a good old age and had become an elder man who was now full of years before he breathed he had breathed his last breath. Know that Abraham died thirty eight years after the death of his first wife Sarah.

It would be at this time that Abraham's body would be gathered amongst his people, and this is where we now find that his sons Isaac and Ishmael had put aside their differences, being that this was a moment of such importance. Isaac and Ishmael buried their father in the cave called Machpelah, which was located near Mamre. Understand that Abraham would be buried along side his first wife Sarah in the cave of Machpelah, which is now known as -- The Tomb of the Patriarchs.

In the next Bible Study Online Article:

Now that Abraham had been laid to rest. In the next article we will take a closer look at the "The Twelve Tribes of Ishmael." Ishmael? Yeah that's right, read it again if you have too...?

May God blessings be upon you, and thank you for your support
